Harriet E. Paroline-Downey, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016; burial was May 23. She was the widow of Lt. Commander James A. Paroline and Stephen F. Downey.

Born and raised on Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Marie and Elbridge Gerry Smith. She is survived by her children Kathleen Vernon, Marjorie Whitehead, Richard Paroline, Nancy Hook, Barbara Paroline, Virginia Goodwin, Charles Paroline, Claire Paroline, and Elizabeth Stark. Her son, James and daughter, Margaret Aleff predeceased her. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Betty Ann Addison and the late Marie Shaw.

She traveled widely as the wife of a Navy officer, before settling in Barrington in 1961. Her first husband died in 1982; she married Stephen in 1997 and they enjoyed traveling around the US and Europe.  

A choir member of Holy Angels Church for 50 years, Harriet also served on the Barrington Council of Republican Women, and led Girl Scout and Brownie troops. Her other passions were gardening, local history, genealogy, photography, and reading.
