WESTPORT — Grum’s Family Restaurant closed its doors on August 16, five years to the day after opening at 140 Charlotte White Road, Westport.
“We are now closed,” they wrote on their Facebook page that Tuesday. “Kim and the staff at Grum’s will miss all of you so much. Please enjoy this video of memories. We will also keep you posted as to where everyone is or will be in their new jobs!”
The decision to shut down, they say, was prompted by the fact that the building, which they lease, had been put up for sale.
The name came from Kim Jagmin’s little brother — when he was little, the closest he could come to pronouncing Grandma’s name was ‘Grum.’ (A picture of Grum was part of the restaurant decor.)
A breakfast, lunch and dinner place known for generous portions of delicious, affordable food, Grum’s will be missed.
The Facebook page is loaded with tributes this week.
“The food is great and the service like family. It reminds me of Cheers "Where everyone knows your name". Great place where you can also stop on your way to Horseneck Beach!!”
“You guys rock for being open through every snow storm for all those out plowing and staying up round the clock for hours ... customer service gone over and beyond!”
That 140 Charlotte White Road location has hosted a number of restaurants — among them Spooners, Virginia’s and Erica’s.
(Grum’s — apostrophe optional … The sign goes without but the Facebook page calls it Grum’s.)
