Giant terrapin goes missing from Barrington DPW

Actually, the terrapin is a parade float for the land trust

Members of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust are looking for information that may help them locate a missing float in time for the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30.

Recently it was discovered that the trust's float — a large diamondback terrapin with wheels — had gone missing. It had been kept at the Barrington Department of Public Works, but when trust officials went looking for it recently they could not locate it.

"We're stumped by this mystery and hope we can find our friend in time for the parade," said Tim Faulkner, president of the Barrington Land Conservation Trust.

Workers at the DPW have reportedly searched high and low for the missing float, but have been unable to locate it. Trust officials, meanwhile, have been asking around, hoping to track it down.

The motor-less float was designed by local artist Lisa Abbatomarco. It represents the land trust's diamondback terrapin project, which maintains and studies one of the region's largest nesting sites at Nockum Hill in Barrington.

Anyone with information about the float is asked to call 330-6276 or write to info@blct.org
