Genevieve A. (Marino) Francis, 76, of Bristol passed away on April 26, 2016. She was the wife of David Francis.

Born in Fall River, MA she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lena (Rebello) Marino. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol graduating from Colt Memorial High School in 1957. She attended Katherine Gibbs School and worked at Crestwood Nursing Home for 17 years serving as its Administrator for 11 years. Mrs. Francis and her husband were co-owners of Bay Towers Nursing Center in Providence. She served as Administrator there for 25 years.

Mrs. Francis (known as Mima/Aunt Gen) was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and formerly served as a religious instructor there. She was a volunteer guardian through the State of Rhode Island’s program of volunteers and was chairperson and also co-chairperson of an area Health Drive. Genevieve served as a former President and Member of the Board of the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce. During her employment in the health care industry, she served on the board of the Rhode Island Health Care Association as well as its Vice President.

Mrs. Francis leaves behind her sons David (and Debra) Francis of Topsham, Maine and Matthew (and Lisa) Francis of Bristol as well as many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was devoted to her grandchildren, Mitchell, Jake and Zack Francis of Bristol, Tyler Francis of Warwick and her step granddaughter Jacqueline Lagasse of Topsham, Maine. She was preceded in death by her son John (Jay) Anthony Francis.

Genevieve took pleasure in family gatherings on Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Thanksgiving dinner was followed by putting up the Christmas tree. Christmas Eve was celebrated with an Italian dinner of various fish dishes followed by a visit from Santa. Christmas was celebrated with members of both sides of the family as well as friends enjoying visiting with each other at her home.

Her funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 9:30 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St. with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
