The Fourth of July Concert Series turns to the south when it resumes at Independence Park Monday night with a pair of country rockers.

Annie Probst is known for her powerful voice, and she and her band — the 2014 New England Music Awards Country Act of the Year — are masters of harmonic country-rock, according to recent press the band has been getting. The band, based in Massachusetts, takes the Indepewndence Park stage at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Bobby Carlson and the Stones River, also from Massachusetts, bills itself as "a wide variety of country music with a flair of rock." The band "sounds like what's happening today and a little of yesterday." They take the stage at 7:45 p.m.

The Concert Series continues every night through July 3 at Independence Park on Thames Street. The upcoming schedule:

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
