The Fourth of July Concert Series resumes Thursday night with a couple of high energy performances.

Roots rocker Becky Chace kicks things off at Independence Park at 6:30 p.m. with her band's mix of original music and covers of such artists as diverse as Irving Berlin, Johnny Cash and Men at Work. Their eclectic mix of music spans rock, country and pop genres, featuring Becky Chace's strong vocals, which have been comared to Melissa Ethridge and Bonnie Rait.

Batteries Not Included offers a little something for everyone. A pop, rock/country/dance band, they play Top 40 hits and classics to appeal to audiences of all ages.

The Concert Series continues every night through July 3 at Independence Park on Thames Street. The upcoming schedule:

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
