Food Truck 5K/10K is Saturday
Hundreds of runners will see a part of Warren they might never have visited otherwise, when they arrive at the start line of Saturday’s Warren Food Truck 5 and 10K.
Now in its third year, the run takes a different route this year, leading participants on a scenic tour of Warren’s Touisset section. That’s a change from previous years, when the run/walk stayed around Child Street and the Kickemuit River.
Whatever the route, the 5K has become a huge success since it started in 2014. Last year, some 200 runners raised more than $10,000 for the education foundation, which provides grants to teachers for classroom-related purchases they might not have been able to afford. Those who run get a chance to post a time, and those who don’t? Well, there is plenty of food to keep them busy.
As the name suggests, the run is more than just a run. Waiting at the finish line will be a host of food trucks from across the state, including Championship Melt, Haven Brothers, O’Crepe, the ‘Rolling Creperie,’ and the Z Food truck. There will also be drinks, lots of fun stuff for the kids to do, and more. There are also several courses as follows:
n USATF-certified 10K and 5K courses. They all start on the grounds of the Pete Sepe Pavilion, and follow the Warren Bike Path to Long Lane and out through Touisset. Both races are chip-timed.
n There is a one-mile walk along the bike path to Long Lane.
n There will also be kids’ races and an obstacle course at the Pete Sepe Pavilion.
Registration opens at noon, with the kids’ race (age 13 and under) starting at 2 p.m. The 10K begins at 3 p.m., with the 5K starting at 3:10. Finally, the one-mile run starts at 3:20 p.m.
For more information about the event, or to register, see www.bwedfoundation.org/page/events/foodtruck5K. Those who pre-register before 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8 get a free T-shirt. Race-day registration opens at noon.
