EAST PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Certified School Nurse Teacher Association has chosen East Providence's Kathleen Carrigan as the 2016 RICSNTA School Nurse Teacher of the Year. Carrigan is the school nurse teacher at Kent Heights Elementary School and a city resident.

Carrigan will be honored at the annual RICSNTA banquet on May 11 at the Quidnesset Country Club. The Rhode Island Department of Education will also be honoring her at a special Waterfire in Providence on September 24.

In addition to her duties at Kent Heights, Carrigan also serves as the East Providence School District Nurse Coordinator. She is in her 29th year working in city schools.

"We are all well of aware of the great job Kathy does," said School Committee Chairman Charlie Tsonos. "She is an inspiration to a lot of people and she's a big, big help to the district. She's just outstanding at what she does and we thank her for what she does. This honor is well deserved."

He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
