EAST PROVIDENCE — Ryan Ellinwood was involved in three touchdowns as he led the East Providence High School football team to a 24-14 victory over visiting Cranston West in a Division I-A football game Friday night, Oct. 14, at Pierce Stadium.

Ellinwood, the Townies' senior quarterback, threw for a pair of scores, including the eventual game-winning strike in the third quarter, and ran for another as the locals improved to 2-3 in the league standings.

His 10-yard completion to Steve Simpson late in the third gave East Providence an 18-14 lead. Earlier he lofted a 26-yard pass which Cameron Green out-jumped a Falcons' defender to catch for the touchdown just inside the pylon. Ellinwood later added an insurance score with a three-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

The game was at times very sloppy, the sides combining for five fumbles and each committing unnecessary mistakes and penalties.

The Townies got on the board first when sophomore running back Dion Hazard capped an early E.P. drive with a 12-yard touchdown run. The kick for point was missed, leaving the locals up 6-0.

Cranston West, now 0-4 in the league and missing injured starting quarter Nick Dionizio, scored the next two touchdowns to take the lead into halftime. Running back Will Such accounted for each of the tallies on runs of 60 and 17 yards. Both PATs were converted, giving the Falcons a 14-12 lead at the break.

East Providence has a bye in its schedule the weekend of October 14, returning to action at Pierce Friday night, OCt. 28, for the school's annual "Townie Pride" event against Portsmouth.
