EAST PROVIDENCE — Two separate though suspicious incidents involving cars were handled by East Providence Firefighters in the early morning hours of Monday, July 25, in the Riverside section of the city.

East Providence Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian reported the department received a call of a vehicle on fire on East Knowlton Street off Bullocks Point Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. Upon arrival crews found the fire had spread from the vehicle in the driveway of the residence to a boat and extended to the adjacent garage. Chief Elmasian said, "the car was destroyed, the boat suffered significant damage and the garage suffered extensive damage."

While on the scene at East Knowlton, the chief said firefighters were alerted to another car on fire very close by in the same general area at an Earl Avenue location. Once there, crews put the fire out. Chief Elmasian said the interior of the car suffered significant damage.

No injuries were reported at the time of either incident, the chief said. He declined to say if the two fires were connected, adding, "both incidents remain under investigation."
