EAST PROVIDENCE — East Providence Firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze, which engulfed a multi-family home on South Blossom Street in the early morning hours of Friday, July 22.
While the home suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage, no one was injured
EPFD Chief Oscar Elmasian said department personnel reached on the scene around 5 a.m. The official call came in at 4:54 a.m.
Upon arrival, the chief said fire was "fully involved." Initial reports also claimed residents of the home were still inside, however, Chief Elmasian said firefighters quickly determined that to be incorrect.
Focusing their energies on putting out the flames, the chief said his crews were able to get the fire under control in well executed manner.
"The guys did a great, great job," Chief Elmasian said. "Once they determined no one was inside, they were able to get it (the fire) under control."
Chief Elmasian said the porch of the residence sustain significant damage, though he added the structure of the building should be able to be saved.
The chief said one resident was transported to hospital for smoke inhalation while one firefighter was also taken to be checked for dehydration.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, according to the chief.
