School spirit was on display at Barrington High School's homecoming event on Friday night at Victory Field.
Students from all four classes enjoyed a parade of floats and later crowned a king and queen — Galen Nordhoff and Lindsay Daugherty.
The parade of class floats showed the unbounded school spirit as members of each class threw candy in to the crowd. The Class of 2018 had a full load of students, big stereo speakers and the Barrington Eagle mascot riding in back of senior Lindsay Wright’s family pickup truck. Amanda Lovett, a senior on the truck, said homecoming is a rite of passage and a part of high school she will never forget. “It's bittersweet. These high school years have gone by so fast. Most of us have been friends for years. Ever since I moved here in the fourth grade I have made so many friends. It’s sad to think this is our last year together,” she said. The sophomore float was teaming with enthusiasm as well. Some said they were most happy not to be freshmen any longer. “We have the most school spirit of all the classes,” said Jake Lentz. Junior class member Toby Rein said homecoming is a great event to get the entire student body to come out and support their school. “Homecoming is the first chance of the school year for all the grades at BHS to come together and show their collective school spirit. We may all be in different graduating classes, but we are all BHS students,” he said.
The entire event was filmed by members of the Sunrise Show, the morning news program that is live streamed daily at the school. Sunrise anchorman Michael Sangiuliano said with the use of the portable sunrise technology and multiple cameras they were able to live stream the game and halftime festivities for those who couldn’t be there. “The quality is amazing and it's great that we have this technology. This way, people who can’t be here — family out of town, elderly people in the hospital — can watch it live or later by downloading it,” he said.
The Barrington High School football celebrated homecoming with a 15-2 victory over Tolman — it was the team's first win of the season and delighted the large home field crowd.
The evening also featured a homecoming fair sponsored by various clubs at the school offering henna tattoos, face-painting and other fun activities for families.
At halftime of the game, Galen Nordhoff and Lindsay Daugherty were chosen as the 2016 king and queen as voted by the junior and senior classes. Other members of the Homecoming Court were Tanner Pacheco and Molly Sullivan, Adam Portugali and Bella Campanini, Caleb Sun and Caroline Connelly, Thad Lentz and Lily Gagliano and Dylan Monti and Delaney Stephens.
