EAST PROVIDENCE — A design and firm has been selected to remodel the bus shelter at Riverside Square.

The city's Director of Community Development David Bachrach recently announced the contract had been awarded to Wright Deter Enterprise, a Pawtucket-based company. Wright Deter, a nationally recognized artist, owns the operation. According to his bio on the company's website, he runs a metal fabrication business which specializes in custom design, building, welding and installation. He fabricates sculptures from stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, bronze and wood. He also casts sculptures in bronze and aluminum.

The cost of the Riverside Square bus shelter project is $46,000, of which 80 percent comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the remaining 20 percent from the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority. According to the application, "the successful proposer shall comply with the conditions and terms applicable thereunder." Wright Deter did.

"Wright Deter Enterprise was chosen because it was the best design that fitted the area," Mr. Bachrach explained. "The contractor drew his inspiration from the architecture of the Crescent Park Carousel."

The size of the structure is exactly 17 feet, 6 inches by 10'4" by 5'9." Mr. Bachrach said the construction time is expected to be two days. The work will be done sometime this summer.
