Coggeshall Farm celebrates the Fourth, 18th century style

A reading of the Declaration of Independence highlights the event

Not to be left out of Bristol’s biggest celebration, Coggeshall Farm Museum will celebrate the birth of the nation by recreating the time when the nation was born.

The Farm will celebrate Independence Day on Sunday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to noon with 18th-century games, music, (dry) toasts, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

"Our museum represents the Federalist Era of the 1790s, a time when the notion of our country was still brand new," said Interim Executive Director Casey Duckett. "Our celebration of independence resonates deeply because it would have been fresh in the minds of the tenant farmers who lived and worked on this land."

Coggeshall is a living history museum located at 1 Colt Drive, Bristol (off Poppasquash Road). The farm and museum are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., throughout the summer. Weekday admission is $3 for children, seniors and active-duty military; $5 for adults. Weekend admission is $5 for children, seniors and military; $7 for adults.
