Mars Bishop wins two events for the Eagles

Posted

Barrington High School senior Mars Bishop won the 1,500 meter race and the 1,000, but the victories were not quite enough as the Eagles lost to Central High School (65-42.9) and Classical (57-52) during a meet on Wednesday night, Jan. 18.

Boys' hockey team skates past Portsmouth, Smithfield.

Bishop proved he was better than the rest of the field as he won the 1,500 by 15 seconds and the 1,000 by nearly 11 seconds. He clocked a 4:14.78 in the 1,500 and a 2:38.44 in the 1,000.

Anthony Pitts and Hayden Ivatts finished one-two in the 3,000 meter race, picking up some team points in the process.

Sam Read ran well for Barrington. The junior finished third in the 300 meter race and fourth in the 55 meter dash. Josh Meranda captured third place honors in the 55 meter hurdles.

Less than one-half of one second separated a Barrington High School relay team from victory.

The Eagles' 4x400 relay team of Ivatts, Troy Prebenda, George Wicker and Jamie Gunness finished with a time of 3:40.42, just two-tenths of a second behind a team of Central runners.

Barrington's 4x200 relay team finished in third place.
