The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Jan. 9 and Jan. 16:

Monday, Jan. 9

Police and fire officials responded to a crash with injuries at Metacom and Bay View avenues at about 1:30 p.m. One driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, and another to Miriam Hospital for unspecified injuries. It was the second significant accident at that intersection in as many weeks. Metacom Avenue was shut down for several hours last Monday when a car struck a pole, causing traffic lights to fall.

A resident on Wall Street complained of loud neighbors just before 2 a.m. Officers advised the neighbor to turn down the TV.

A dog was hit by a car on Viking Drive at 10 a.m.

Mail was reportedly stolen from a home on Wood Street.

Two men in their mid-30s were reportedly visiting homes door-to-door asking people for their gas bills. The men were working for Clear Energy Company. Door-to-door soliciting without a permit is a violation of town ordinances.

A group of juveniles was reportedly laying on the ice outside Guiteras School at 4:15 p.m. No iced over pond should be trusted to have safe ice.

More reports of explosions were reported, this time in the area of Charles Street, Ferry Road and Walnut Street at 12:30 p.m. Portsmouth Police received similar reports at the same time, as did police in Newport and Tiverton. Officers checked with TF Green Airport, learning no military aircraft were in the area creating sonic booms. They also checked with the United State Geologic Survey, learning there was no seismic activity in the area. Finally, officers learned the explosions were coming from Quonset Point, where the RI State Police was detonating old ordnance.

Friday, Jan. 13

A woman wearing a blue shirt with her hair in a pony tail was reportedly wandering through back yards on State Street at 12:30 p.m. Police could not find the woman.

Two juveniles were reportedly constructing traffic riding their skateboards on Bay View Avenue just before 4 p.m. Officers advices the juveniles to clear the road.

A juvenile was reportedly assaulted at Michael and Casey drive around 4:30 p.m. Police are investigating.

Police responded to a fire on Wood Street just after 11 p.m., which destroyed a garage and sitting room next to the home. There were no injuries, which the homeowner attributes to the quick response from Bristol Fire and Police departments. See the letter to the editor on page 6.

Sunday, Jan. 15

A resident on School Court called police after hearing banging downstairs just after 9:30 p.m. There was no problem; just a resident trying to get into his home.
