The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between May 17 and May 21:
Tuesday, May 17
Police responded to two complaints of suspicious activity at the corner of Church and High streets, one at midnight, the second an hour later. In both cases, police dispersed the group; no charges were filed.
Reports of smoke filling the air came in from the area around State and Wood streets around 1:30 a.m. Police join fire officials to investigate, finding the smoke was coming from a backyard firepit.
A resident on High Street called police to report a deer in the yard. The deer left when police arrived.
The staff of a bar on Metacom Avenue called just after 10:30 a.m. to report a potentially drunk man leaving in his car north on Metacom. Officers investigated but were unable to find the car.

A resident on Monroe Avenue called police to report “very loud banging from skate boards” just after 8:30 p.m. Police filed a report.
Another noise complaint came in from the same area about a half-hour later, followed by two nuisance calls on Asylum Road an hour later. Police dispersed the noisy masses.
Wednesday, May 18
Calls of “suspicious” people hanging out in Gooding plaza on Hope Street at 3:40 a.m. turned out to be Dunkin’ Donuts employees in the parking lot.
A resident on Kingwood Road called to report an injured groundhog in the backyard. Animal control advised the resident to contact a pest control company.
A cell phone was reportedly stolen at the East Bay Food Pantry on Franklin Street Wednesday afternoon. The suspect reportedly headed north via the railroad tracks. Warren Police were notified, but were unable to find the suspect.
Reports of a reckless driver came true when police responded to an accident involving a tree at Hope and Chestnut streets around 5:30 p.m.
A group of juveniles were reportedly throwing rocks in Cedar Crest Park on Fatima Drive around 5:30 p.m. Police could not find them upon arrival.
Some more juvenile hijinks occurred at Hope Street and Meadow Lane when a group of youngsters was reportedly throwing water balloons at passing cars. Again, the alleged offenders scattered before police arrived.
A resident on Goulart Avenue called to complain of a neighbor burning brush in his backyard. The resident had put the fire out before officers arrived.
Thursday, May 19
Officers responded to several nuisance complaints in the wee hours of Thursday morning on Hope Street, Wood Street, High Street, State Street Court Street and at Independence Park. All occurred between midnight and 1:30 a.m., and involved “suspicious” individuals or noise complaints.
Mr. Miranda turned himself into Bristol Police at headquarters after a warrant for his arrest had been issued the night before.
Officers helped remove a disorderly individual from a home on State Street around 9:30 a.m. There was no arrest made.
They then escorted a disorderly man wearing “tiger striped pants” from the Dollar Tree on Gooding Avenue at 11:30 a.m.
A resident on Scott Lane called to report neighbors engaged in a verbal argument at 12:30 p.m. There turned out to be no argument; the resident was disciplining a dog.
A resident on Michael Drive reported two strange men walked into the backyard of a neighbor’s home. There was no problem; the men were visiting the neighbor.
Police were called to Sousa Street around 6:30 p.m. on reports of harassment from a neighbor. A Sousa Street resident frequently calls police at all hours of the day to complain about neighbors making noise, parking on the street, allowing their children to play in the neighborhood, etc.
Police helped break up a fight near the Bristol Sports Club on Wood Street just after 10:30 p.m.
Friday, May 20
Bristol Police and Portsmouth rescue services responded to a crash on Metacom Avenue just before 11 a.m. Two individuals were injured; one taken to Newport Hospital, the other to Rhode Island Hospital. Animal control also took a dog from the scene.
Loose cattle were reportedly wandering in the road on Tilbury Drive around 11 a.m. The town compliance officer responded.
Police investigated reports of dirtbike riders operating recklessly in the road on Greenway Drive around 6 p.m.. Dirtbikes are not allowed on town roads, but police were unable to find the riders.
The dirt bikers were back a couple hours later, this time on Hope Street, but again slipped through officers’ fingers.
Saturday, May 21
A caller reported a dog locked in a car with the windows up at 10 a.m. at the Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue. The car was gone when police arrived. It is illegal to leave a dog in a hot car without fresh air and water.
Reports of a dead deer lying in Metacom Avenue around 9 p.m. were unfounded when the deer got up and walked away.
Police responded to noise complaints throughout the night Saturday, into Sunday morning. The reports began at 11 p.m., continuing through 3 a.m. on Hope Street, High Street, Roma Street, Herzog Street and Metacm Avenue.
Sunday, May 22
Officers were called to Naomi Street just before 2 p.m. on reports of a dispute over a prom dress. There was no police action required.
