Bristol Police: House breaks, trapped squirrel, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21:

Monday, Aug. 15

Police dispersed a man who had passed out behind Purity Laundry on Metacom Avenue at 7 a.m.

Officers assisted in freeing a squirrel that had somehow gotten trapped in and outdoor lighting fixture.

A man called police to report his daughter believes someone is in her home. Police advised the man to have his daughter call police herself. An officer checked the home, finding no one there, and nothing amiss.

Police told four juveniles to stop jumping off the dock at Independence Park on Thames Street around 1:30 p.m.

Officers removed an unwanted man from a home on Richmond Street around 11:30 p.m. No arrest was made.

Tuesday Aug. 16

A man was reportedly screaming somewhere around Wood and Church streets. Officers were unable to find the man.

Animal control helped remove a bat from a home on Mt. Hope Avenue at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 17

Someone apparently tried to break into a home on Mulberry Road around 3 a.m., damaging the back door. The suspect was unable to get into the house.

A threatening note was placed on the door of a home on Prospect Street around 10:30 a.m. Police are investigating.

A home was reportedly broken into on Echo Farm Drive. Reports came in around 1 p.m. Police are investigating.

A reportedly rabid raccoon was spotted on Metacom Avenue just before 5 p.m. The state Department of Environmental Management responded, but could not find the animal.

Thursday, Aug. 18

A caller on Wood Street reported a suspicious group of people were walking along the Town Common and a car was driving slowly up and down the street. There was nothing showing when officers arrived.

A customer of the Cake Gallery on Hope Street called police after a reported dispute over a refund at the bakery around 12:30 p.m. Officers sorted out the problem and the customer was reimbursed.

A woman on Oliver Street called police around 2:30 p.m. after a suspicious man called and asked if she was home alone. Officers responded but soon learned the woman knew the man, and he was actually returning her call.

Another man was reportedly screaming outside on Wood Street just after 6 p.m. Police filed a report, but no arrest was made.

A man wearing a black shirt, flip-flops and glasses was reportedly yelling and acting disorderly outside a downtown bar just after 11 p.m. Officers removed the man and issued a no trespass order.

Friday, Aug. 19

Police advised a resident on Franklin Street to remove dog waste from the street.

A manhole cover was in the road at Metacom Avenue and Carr Lane around 7:30 p.m. A patrolman returned the cover to its location.

Saturday, Aug. 20

A caller asked police to assist him in removing a woman from his car on Wood Street just after 1 a.m.

A resident reported a water leak at Metacom and Hopeworth avenues. The Bristol County Water Authority was advised.

Sunday, Aug. 21

A resident on Sousa Street called police to report a truck revving its engine while driving down the street. Officers could not find the truck.

Police responded to several calls for “suspicious activity” through the night Saturday into Sunday on Thames Street at 1:20 a.m., at Sip ’N Dip on Hope Street at 1:30 a.m., at Bradford and Hope streets at 1:50 a.m., at Hope and High streets at 2:12 a.m., and at the National Guard Armory on Metacom Avenue at 2:30 a.m. In all cases, officers dispersed the group deemed suspicious. No further police action was necessary.

A resident on Pawtucket Avenue called police because someone was driving a golf cart on the street. Officers were unable to locate the cart.

A motorcycle rider reportedly fell from his bike at Mt. Hope and Dewolf avenues around 6:30 p.m. He was brought to Rhode Island Hospital with unspecified injuries.
