Bristol Police: Flying couch, suspicious people, bird in a tree

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Nov. 28 and Dec. 4:

Monday, Nov. 28

Police responded to an accident on Franklin Street that involved a car hitting a building around 2:20 p.m. There were unspecified injuries, but no report of anyone being transported to the hospital.

A caller reported witnessing a man break a window in a home on Church Street around 6:30 p.m. Officers filed a report, but made no arrest.

Tuesday, Nov. 29

A former employee “threw an object” at his former employer’s work truck on Hope Street around 10 a.m. No arrest was made, and the company was not specified in reports.

Officers searched for a “suspicious” man walking on the East Bay Bike Path near Sip ’N Dip around 4:20 p.m., wearing a black coat. Officers could not find the man. There was no indication in police reports why the caller found the man suspicious.

A tree limb fell on a car on Lower Ferry Road.

Wednesday, Nov. 30

A resident on Murphy Street reported an apparently drunk man was pounding on the front door at 2:30 a.m. Officers responded and removed the intoxicated man.

Officers issued a junk vehicle summons to a car on Catherine Street that was parked on the road with three flat tires, a violation of town ordinances.

Officers responded to reports of a verbal argument outside at Wood and Richmond streets. They filed a report, but no further police action was needed.

Thursday, Dec. 1

Police investigated an unattached boat that was sitting at Walley and High streets, a violation of a town ordinance. Officers spoke to the owner, who promised to move the vessel to his property.

A bus driver flagged down an officer on Roma Street at 3:30 p.m., reporting he has witnessed a man climbing out of a window of a home on that street. There was no description of the suspect, and police were unable to find him.

Friday, Dec. 2

Police responded to a disorderly person complaint on Bradford Street at 1 a.m., and  suspicious activity complaint on Waterman Street at 1:40 a.m. In both cases, the Roger Williams University shuttle responded to pick up the person in question.

Police assisted with a dog locked in a car at Mt. Hope High School just before 10 a.m.

The rear window of a car on Wood Street was reportedly smashed. Police filed a report around 10:30 a.m.

Police responded to reports of a “couch thrown out of window” on Wood Street just before 4 p.m. Officers determined it was a civil matter that did not require police action.

A resident on Fernwood Road complained that the lights from a tree vendor at Metacom Avenue and Chestnut Street were pointed at his home. 

An anonymous caller reported that cars routinely blow through the stop sign at State and Wood streets. Police took note.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Police assisted with a vehicle fire on the RWU North campus at 3 a.m. The Fire Department was able to quickly get the fire under control, and Safeway responded to tow the car.

A goose was reportedly stuck in a tree in Coelho Park on Jenny Lane. The bird was rescued.

Two people were reportedly arguing at the drive-up ATM at Bank of America on Hope Street at 6:30 p.m. They were gone when police arrived.

Sunday, Dec. 4

A dead animal was reportedly found on the stone wall behind Sip ’N Dip on Hope Street just before 9 a.m. Animal control removed the animal.

Police responded to several animal calls Sunday morning, including a dead animal on Metacom Avenue, and loose dogs on Sefton Road and two on Hamlet Drive.
