Bristol Police: DUI, ‘suspicious’ Pokemon player, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Jan. 2 and Jan. 8:

Monday, Jan. 2

Trash was reportedly left by the side of the road on Franklin Street in violation of a town ordinance. Police advised the resident, who was to remove the junk.

A man in a red pickup truck was reportedly removing stones from a stone wall at North Burial Ground around 3:30 p.m. Police investigating, finding the man was a contractor working for the cemetery.

Tuesday, Jan. 3

An injured Canadian goose was laying in the road at Chestnut and Naomi streets around 7 a.m. A motorist carried the bird to the side of the road, where animal control picked it up to bring it to the wild life sanctuary.

Police assisted a family on Alma Avenue with “disobedient children.”

Wednesday, Jan. 4

A man and woman were reportedly arguing outside at 4 a.m. on Metacom Avenue. The couple was gone when officers arrived.

A man was reportedly walking on the Mt. Hope Bridge just before 9 a.m. Officers found he was a Roger Williams University student who had missed the bus from Portsmouth. A patrolman drove him the rest of the way across the bridge, where pedestrians are not allowed.

A syringe was found on the road on Sunrise Drive just before 1 p.m. It was removed.

A small mulch fire was extinguished at Metacom Avenue and Tupelo Road around 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 5

Robert Faria Machado, 36, of 5 Hanley St., Apt. 3F, Warren, was charged with driving under the influence on Metacom Avenue just after midnight.

Police and Fire officials responded to an accident at Metacom Avenue and Tupelo Street at 10:30 a.m. A woman reported that a man in a car approached her at Bristol Town Beach on Asylum Road at 1:30 p.m. While he didn’t say anything, she told police she felt the man was suspicious. Officers investigated, learning the man was playing “Pokemon Go.” He said he did not mean to approach the woman; he was just in the same area as her.

A man wearing a gray and yellow jacket was reportedly walking “all over the road and sidewalk” on Hope Street around 8:30 p.m. The reported was unfounded.

Friday, Jan. 6

John Jason Rothfuchs, 34, of 11 Macleod Way, Boxborough, Mass., was charged with driving with a suspended license at Metacom Avenue and State Street just after 6 a.m.

A woman claimed to be a victim of fraud when buying a car. Officers filed a report.
Jason A. Bailey, 33, of 27 Edward St., Newport, was charged with violating a protective order, third offense.

Charissa Russell, 28, of 20 Monterey Road, Warwick, was arrested on a 3rd District Court bench warrant, and was cited for driving with an expired license on Metacom Avenue at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 7

Police were called to an apartment building on Washington Street around 1:30 a.m. for reports of arguing and loud banging in the hallway. Nothing was showing when officers arrived.

A resident on Alan Drive complained of a neighbor dumping waste water at the end of his property.

A caller complained of a truck parked up against he door of the Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue, preventing him from getting in. There was no police action needed.

Philip V. Duckett, 23, of 470 Sandy Point Ave., Portsmouth, was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test. He was arrested on Metacom Avenue just before 8 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 8

A resident on Goulart Avenue told police he heard noises outside just before 4 a.m. Officers found nothing suspicious.

A snow plow reportedly caused some damage to a property on Center Street.
