Tiverton and State Police and the state fire marshal's office are investigating after a body was discovered behind a house near the corner of Furey Avenue and Thomas Street in Tiverton Friday.

Tiverton firefighters went to the location to fight a car fire at about 1 p.m. Friday afternoon and it was then that the body was found in the car.

Police have not issued any statements but the body is believed to be that of a person who lived in the house there according to several reports. There is no word on what caused the fire.

Furey Avenue is located between Brayton Avenue and Weetamoo Woods. Much of the area is wooded and crime tape has been put up around the investigation area. The state medical examiner arrived in mid-afternoon and had departed by 4:30 p.m.
