Throwers place in Millrose Games Trials

Barrington High School Annika Kelly finished in second place in the weight throw at the Millrose Games Trials in New York City on Wednesday, Jan. 11. 

Kelly had a top throw of 49 feet, 10.5 inches, and her teammates Sydney Polando and Faith Polando finished in third and fourth place, respectively. Sydney had a top throw of 47 feet, 6 inches, while Faith's best throw was 44 feet, 3.25 inches.

The winner was Brittany Curtin of Connetquot High School, Bohemia, NY with a throw of 50 feet, 2.75 inches.

Kelly also finished fifth at the 6th annual East Coast Championship meet. Kelly had a top throw of 47 feet, 10 inches.

Sydney Polando finished in seventh place with a throw of 45 feet, 9 inches, while Faith Polando was 12th with a throw of 43 feet, 4.5 inches. 

Boys' track

The Barrington High School boys' indoor track team defeated Moses Brown (83-22) and East Providence (89-20) in a recent dual meet.

Eliot Laidlaw and Mars Bishop each won a pair of events — Eliot finished first in the 3,000-meter race and the 1,000, while Mars was tops in the 600 and 1,500. Josh Meranda won the 55 meter hurdles and Jack Dunn finished first in the weight throw.

Barrington also had two of its relay teams win — the 4x200 team of Ben Greene, Ryan Brady, Troy Prebenda and Sam Read, and the 4x400 team of Bishop, George Wicker, Prebenda and Hayden Ivatts. 

The Eagles also recently defeated Hope 87-22 and Wheeler 109-0. Laidlaw won a pair of events — the 3,000 and the 1,000. Sam Read won the 300 and the 55 meter dash and Josh Meranda won the 55 hurdles and the long jump. The team of Ryan Brady, Ben Greene, Emmanuel Despines and Read won the 4x200 relay. Dunn was tops in the weight throw and Prebenda won the high jump. Prebenda also teamed with Calvin Hennessey, George Wicker and Hayden Ivatts to win the 4x400. Ivatts captured the fastest time in the 600.
