Bobby Colantonio tosses 12-pound hammer 240 feet

Posted

Recent Barrington High School graduate Bobby Colantonio capped an impressive senior season in the hammer throw, finishing in first place at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championship.

Colantonio, who will compete in track and field at the University of Alabama next year, had his best throw of the competition on his first attempt. He threw the 12-pound hammer 240 feet, 1 inch, which turned out to be nearly 30 feet better than the second place finisher.

Last season, Barrington standouts captured first and second place at the nationals in the hammer throw. Adam Kelly, who competed at Princeton this past year and earned All American status in the hammer throw, was first, while Colantonio was second.

Other finishers

Barrington also had three girls competing in the hammer throw at nationals. Annika Kelly finished 14th overall with a top distance of 149 feet, 10 inches, while Faith Polando was 20th with a distance of 144 feet, 7 inches. Sydney Polando was 28th with a top distance of 135 feet, 1 inch.
