Brush fire smoke seen miles away
A brush fire behind the Barrington DPW headquarters on Upland Way on Sunday afternoon filled the sky with black smoke. Motorists pulled their vehicles to the side of nearby roads and watched the smoke intensify. Residents called 911 at about 3:30 p.m. and the Barrington Fire Department responded to the scene a short time later. It took just a few minutes for crews to locate the origin of the brush fire and extinguish the blaze.
Barrington student-athletes run at regionals
Hayden Ivatts and Kate Zitzmann competed in the Nike Cross Northeast Regional race at Wappinger Falls, NY, last weekend. The two Barrington High School standouts ran against some of the best competition in the country — Hayden finished in 94th place in the boys' championship race with a time of 17:15, while Kate finished ninth in the girls' open race with a time of 20:18.
Library will open late on Thursday
The Barrington Public Library will not open until 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1. The late opening is the result of a full staff meeting at the library. For more information call 247-1920.
