Barrington man unknowingly pays for stolen phones

Surveillance video catches suspect fleeing with phones

Posted

A Greenbrier Drive resident in Barrington called police on Wednesday, April 20 to report that his Social Security number may have been compromised.

The resident said he had been notified about an AT&T account that had recently been opened using his personal information. He said he did not open the account.

Three phones had been purchased on the account, and had apparently been shipped to his home address.

The resident did not receive the packages, but later checked his home security footage and discovered that the items had been delivered and then stolen.

Police are using the video footage to try to track down the suspect. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police department's tip line at 437-3933.
