Barrington athletes compete at Dartmouth meet

Boys' and girls' teams both finish 27th

Barrington High School student-athletes performed well at the recent Dartmouth Relays track and field meet at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.

Barrington High School's Annika Kelly finished in fifth place in the weight throw, while her teammate Sydney Polando finished in sixth in the same event. Annika had a top throw of 48 feet, 5.5 inches, while Sydney's top throw was 44 feet, 10.5 inches. Faith Polando finished tied for 13th, with a top throw of 41 feet, 6.5 inches.

Also, Barrington's Kate Zitzmann ran to a sixth-place finish in the 800 meter race. Kate crossed the finish line with a time of 2:23.62. Teá Bishop finished 19th in the 1,000 meter race, 

Meanwhile Barrington's sprint medley relay team finished fourth overall. The team of Nicole Cooke, Erin Abbott, Teá Bishop and Kate Zitzmann finished with a time of 4:23.97, which was about three seconds back from the winning team. The Eagles' distance medley relay team of Lily Gagliano, Kate Zitzmann, Riley Kloc and Lily Sefranek finished in 16th.

For the Barrington boys' team, Jack Dunn finished in seventh in the weight throw with a top distance of 55 feet, 7 inches. Mars Bishop ran to a third place finish in the one mile race; he clocked a time of 4:23.06.

The local boys' and girls' teams each finished in 27th place. The boys scored six points, while the girls finished with eight.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
