EAST PROVIDENCE — The first annual “Hunt's Mills ” art festival took place on a spectacular Sunday, June 26, over the sprawling Hunt property located off of Pleasant Street in Rumford section of the city.

The inaugural event was a combined effort between the East Providence Historical Society and the East Providence Arts Council.

Some 50 artisans and community groups were on hand for the festivities which included craft displays, food, live music, house tours, trail hikes and picnic areas among other items of interest to the large and varied crowd that gathered for the approximately four-hour event.

"We were very pleased with the whole event. Hunt's Mills was an amazing setting for an arts related event like we held. I look forward to holding more events there," said E.P. Arts Council chairman Rick Lawson.

The festival also coincided with the 17th annual running of the Rumford Lions/Scott Gorham family 5K Road Race and 2 Mile Family Fun Walk. That event took place earlier Sunday morning and was won by Mike Macedo, who clocked a time of 17 minutes 30 seconds. Issy Nielson was the women's division and finished fourth overall in 20:20.
