Adelina M. DeSano, 91, of Barrington

Adelina M. (Martinuzzi) DeSano, 91, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016. She was the wife of the late John A. DeSano, Sr. to whom she was married for more than 50 years.

Born in Maron di Brugnera, Pordenone, Italy, Adelina was a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Cereser) Martinuzzi with whom she immigrated to Providence, Rhode Island in her teenage years. In 1964, she and her husband John located to Barrington where they made their home and raised their family.

Mrs. DeSano was a homemaker. She was passionate about reading, gardening and cooking. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed visiting Hawaii. She loved watching football and Boston Red Sox baseball. She was a parishioner of St. Alexander’s Church in Warren.

Mrs. DeSano is survived by her children Paula Martinuzzi DeSano of Bristol, Carol A. DeSano of North Scituate, attorney John A. DeSano Jr. and his wife Gilda of Warren, and Sandra Pezzullo and her husband Raymond of Barrington. She was the sister of Rina G. Martinuzzi of North Providence.

Mrs. DeSano was the grandmother of seven and the great-grandmother of seven. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Guido, Amerigo, Angelo, Giovanni and Lino Martinuzzi and Irma Zanecchia.

Mrs. DeSano’s funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8:30 a.m. from the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Alexander’s  Church, 221 Main Street, Warren. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
