4th of July tennis tourney draws friendly competition
The Bristol Fourth of July Tennis Tournament attracted 37 players for the 9th annual event this year, drawing players at the high school level to USTA ranked athletes.
“We had a good range of ages,” said event Co-chairwoman Judy Squires.
The athletes, from age 16 to 84, were seeded according to how they ranked themselves on the sign-up sheet. From that, each player and doubles team was matched against others with similar ability.
The two-day event, held on Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, used the tennis courts at the Bristol Recreation Area adjacent to Colt State Park, the courts at Town Common, and at Roger Williams University.
“We not only had beautiful weather but we had some very exciting and outstanding tennis matches,” Ms. Squires said.
