Wilkie, Kid lead local runners at Little Compton Road Race

Some 471 runners braved the heat to compete in the 33rd Little Compton 4.8 Mile Road Race Saturday morning. Run in conjunction with the United Congregational Church Summer Fair, the race drew competitors from around the region to the course that starts and finishes at the Little Compton Commons. Two runners from Springfield, Mass., finished two seconds apart.

Taking first place was Amos Sang, 25, in a time of 22:47, just ahead of Glarius Rop who clocked in at 22:49. They were close behind the 2007 record time of 22:38 set by Dylan Wykes. Top woman finisher (tenth overall) was Jessica Barton, 24, of Newton, Mass., in a time of 27:28. The women’s record of 25:30 was also set in 2007 by Claudia Camargo in a time of 25:30.

Best among Little Compton runners was R.J. Wilkie, 21, who finished 14th overall in a time of 28.27. Kelli Kid of Portsmouth was the top local woman runner — 34th place in a time of 32:03.
