Vermont runner wins Narragansett Bay Half Marathon

Mike Brocks crosses the finish line first Sunday, Aug. 17, in the Narragansett Bay Half Marathon.

EAST PROVIDENCE — Michael Brocks of Burlington, Vt., was the winner of the annual Narragansett Bay Half Marathon during its first incarnation taking place in city Sunday morning, Aug. 17.

Brocks won the event, which began and ended inside of Pierce Memorial Stadium, with a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, 22.1 seconds. Patrick Moulton, of Providence, was second at 1:12.50.9 and Logan Trimble was third in 1:13.42.6.

Katie Moulton, Patrick’s wife, was the top female finisher and eighth overall in a time of 1:23.16.7. Jake Schieffelin, of Barrington, was the first East Bay area runner to finish, winding up in 29th place overall with a time of 1:32.13.4. Cherie Charbonneau, also of Barrington, was the top East Bay female, clocking a time of 1:35.05.5 to place 38th overall. A total of 813 runners competed in the half marathon portion of the event.

In addition, a 5K race was also held Sunday with Brian Sheppard, of Whitman, Mass., winning in a time of 17:24.8. Paul Savickas of Riverside led the local contingent, running second in 18:27.9. Julie Richer, of Whitinsville, Mass., was third overall and the top female, clocking a 19:26.6.
