Westport started on a hot streak and led for the entire game until Cohasset scored with 56 seconds left to gain a 46-45 lead. Westport had a couple of last second chances but was unable to convert.
Rich Hartnett scored the game’s first six points and Jake Friar pitched in with seven points to help the Wildcats to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter. Westport still held a decent 23-16 lead at the half.
But Cohasset’s shooting improved in the third quarter and Westport’s lead diminished to 36-31
Westport suffered a serious blow when senior captain Chris Hartnett fouled out with just under 5 minutes to play and Westport clinging to a 2 point lead. Westport responded with a brief resurgence as the ‘Cats rebuilt their lead to six. That’s when Cohasset took over.
Rich Hartnett scored 11 points to lead Westport. Pitching in with nine points each were Chris Hartnett, Jake Friar and Tom Yeargin.
