Tiverton girls break open tight game for a win

The Tiverton girls basketball team defeated Pilgrim 44-23 at Pilgrim Wednesday, Dec. 12. The victory moves Tiverton to 1-1 overall on the season and Pilgrim to 0-2.

The game was tight in the first half with a halftime score of Tiverton 16 to Pilgrim’s 12. In the end, Tiverton managed to endure Pilgrim’s size and toughness.

Forward Mariah Caldwell of Tiverton led all scorers with 9 points while captain Haley Higgenbottom had an excellent game on the floor as well. Tiverton plays one last non-league competition at home against Bishop Connolly this Tuesday night.

The scorers and stats for Tiverton were: Whiston, Sarah: 2 pts, 1 assist; Bergandy, Maya: 4 pts, 7 rebounds; Welchman, Sam: 4 pts, 3 assists; Bergandy, Olivia: 4 pts, 2 assists, 2 rebounds; Pimental, Rachel: 2 pts, 2 rebounds; Caldwell, Mariah: 9 pts, 4 rebounds; Wilson, Jackie: 2 pts, 2 assists, 5 rebounds; Sando, Sam: 7 pts, 2 rebounds; Higgenbottom, Haley: 8 pts, 2 assists, 7 rebounds; Massey, Emily: 4 pts, 2 assists.
