Although Mt. Hope’s Karina Tavares narrowly missed winning the freshman mile at Saturday’s Knights of Columbus Relays, she was fast enough to break the school’s record with a time of 5:37, giving her a second place finish in the race. The freshman and school record for the mile was held by Meghan McMullen since 2007. Ms. McMullen helped to coach Karina when she was running track at Kickemuit Middle School.

Runners on the boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams took part in the Knights of Columbus Relays on Saturday, April 6.

The girls’ 4×1 mile team, Katarina Heyden, Kylie McPherson, Marisa Silva and Lauren Fletcher, took 14th in their Division I race. Heyden had the fastest split time completing her mile in 6:00.

For the boys’ team, Ben Ratier, Brian Winn, Tyler Moniz and Ryan Arruda took fourth in the Division II 4×1 mile relay, with Winn clocking the fastest split at 5:58.

Mt. Hope will meet teams from Barrington and Rogers high schools this week. The boys’ team will meet on Monday, the girls will meet on Tuesday at Barrington High School.
