BRISTOL—In a 70-68 overtime win on Tuesday night, Matt Scott’s 37 points definitely helped boost the team along to victory, but it was Jared Ramos who sunk a 3-pointer with under a minute left in overtime that set up the win for the Huskies.

While Mt. Hope took an early lead from the opening tip-off, their lead began to shrink as Moses Brown converted steals into points. As Mt. Hope’s lead in the first period dwindled to 23-15, head coach John McDonough called a timeout, a move that appeared to help settle down the players and the coaches.

Back on the court, Moses Brown continued to attack the basket, ending the first period ahead of the Huskies, 30-29. Again, the Huskies gained a comfortable lead, only to have Moses Brown inch their way back to within striking distance of a win.

Senior forward, Jared Ramos, had his best game so far this season, posting 14 points, including three 3-point shots and collecting 12 rebounds.

With 13 seconds left in regulation play, Alex Francis gave the Huskies a 63-61 lead after connecting one of his two foul shots.

However, as the clock ticked down, Moses Brown drove down the lane with a lay-up to tie the game at 63, forcing an overtime period.

In overtime, the Huskies were down 66-65 when Ramos took a three-point shot from the left side of the court. That basket put the Huskies ahead by 2, but a foul sent Moses Brown to the foul line with two successful free throws to, again, tie the game at 68.

The final basket came from Scott, who was able to muscle his way to the hoop, landing a lay-up for a 70-68 lead in the final seconds.

With virtually no time left on the clock, Moses Brown drew a fouls, but missed their final opportunity to add points, securing the win for the Huskies.

The Huskies’ win puts the team at 3-1 in league games. This was the first loss for Moses Brown.

Mt. Hope will travel to Toll Gate High School on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
