The Patriots beat Exeter/West Greenwich at home Friday, 51-33.
“I’m happy with the win, but a little disappointed in our mental focus and execution,” said Mr. Glover. “We’re still struggling to learn our players and to really and to adhere to our general principals that you can’t let a player dribble to their strong side because every time that happens, bad things happen to us. Every time we overplay someone to their strong side, good things happen to us. We’re been stressing that since day one, but we’re still a work in progress on that. I’m happy that the girls got a win, but we can do better.”The win improved the Patriots’ record to 2-2 in the league going into Monday night’s age at Cumberland. The team hosts Chariho on Tuesday night and Cranston East on Friday.
PHS senior co-captains Hannah Wilkie and Katie Wordell had 9 points each Friday night, as did junior guard Briana Turcotte, who threw in two, 3-pointers. Wordell also had five assists.
Forward Haley Alves added another 8 points and also grabbed five defensive rebounds. Junior guard Jamie Hole had three steals.
The Patriots stormed out to an 18-6 lead with 6:30 left in the first half, but then went cold for the next few trips up the floor until Alves hit a 3-pointer to make it 22-13. The Patriots went into halftime with a 24-17 advantage and came out strong in the second half, at one point scoring five points in quick succession within about a minute
“Haley Alves, defensively, has been very good and our two captains have been good as well,” said Mr. Glover, pointing out that Haley is only a sophomore.
