The squad lost to St. Raphael Academy Thursday night, 3-1, in the best-of-five match.
The loss drops the team’s record to 1-11 heading into the final game of the season next Tuesday, Oct. 29, against Rogers High School. The team is in last place in Division III South.
Despite her team’s record, coach Lisa Zable is proud of the way her players have made adjustments throughout the season.
“They’ve made great strides. They’re a different team than they were at the beginning of the season,” she said, noting that only three players had previous experience in the sport. “They are constantly improving in all facets of their game.”
Players now have a better sense of where to position themselves, and she hopes the improvements will carry over into next year.“Next year they’ve have more experience under their belt,” said Ms. Zable.
The squad is brand new this year — the first time PHS has had a girls’ volleyball team since anyone can remember.
The sport was re-established because of a strong demand from female athletes, who pleaded with school administrators, met with the School Committee and organized their own fund-raisers.
