The division of Little League baseball offers boys and girls with physical and mental challenges, ages 5 to 18 (or the completion of high school), the opportunity to participate in organized baseball. Everyone gets a chance to play, regardless of their disability or skill level.
Another season got underway Sunday in Portsmouth, as players young and old took to the Rooney Field behind the Aquidneck Island Christian Academy, 321 East Main Road.Coach Bob Dyl, who runs the program, said he’s got about 40 players signed up so far but expects that number to grow to 50.
“Registration is still open,” he said.
Practice is every Sunday, with younger kids practicing at 1 p.m., and the older players at 2 p.m.
The public is welcome to come down to cheer the players on during practice or at the games, which begin April 27.
