High School golfers from around the state teed it up and battled for the right to become Rhode Island’s top team and player at Cranston Country Club during the RIIL State Golf Championship on May 28 and May 29. Many spectacular shots were made. Most in difficult situations. But it was consistency that counted this year for Barrington and Dave Kraunelis.
The Barrington High School golf team won the state golf championship at Cranston Country Club on Wednesday afternoon, May 29, and team member David Kraunelis defended his state individual title.
The Eagles broke their own record, capturing their 24th state title. It was the sixth time in the last seven years Barrington has won the state golf championship.
Kraunelis was the top high school golfer in the state last year, shooting a 3-under 139. This year he defended his title, finishing the two-day tournament with a 147. Kraunelis, who won the R.I. Golf Association Jr. Amateur title last year, was also a member of the state championship ice hockey team at Barrington High School this winter.
