Mt. Hope wrestlers dominate NY tourney

Mt. Hope High School wrestlers had a good weekend when they dominated the competition at a regional meet held at Herrick High School in New Hyde Park, N.Y. In all, there were seven teams competing. There were no team scores, just individuals, and seven teams competed in all. Overall, Mt. Hope wrestlers received the most medals. They will travel to Somerset High School this weekend to compete in the Nick Peachy Tournament, which they won last year. In addition, Mt. Hope beat Lasalle last Wednesday, and the contest was decided in the 285-pound match, when Will Jaycox pinned his opponent, making the final score 36-31.

Following are the placers in the New Hyde Park tourney:

First place Chirstian Torres (132) Chris Machado (138) Bailey Ziobro (160) Byron Thibaudeau (182) Dominic Lombardo (195).

Second place Nathan Pimental (145) Will Francis (195).

Third place Alan St. Vincent (126) Sean Thibaudeau (145) Ryan Bartell (152) Josh Conti (160) Merrill Sampson (220).

Fourth place Zach Primiano (106) Dan McDonough (138).
