Mt. Hope starts season with win in unified basketball

On Wednesday, March 13, the Mt. Hope Huskies unified basketball team took its season opener with a 49-39 win over Middletown High School. The Huskies dominated throughout the game, with Middletown working to gain some ground in the second half, chipping away at the Huskies’ lead.

Leading the way to Mt. Hope’s win was Randy Pullen with 20 points. Teammates Tyesha Bliss put up 10 points for the team, with Jared Tweedy celebrating his birthday with 8 points and Matt Coccio with 7 points.

Middletown’s Pablo Cortez took every opportunity with the fastbreak, scoring 23 points in the game. He, along with teammates, Danny Glenning, 8 points, and Mariah Kiss, 4 points, were Middletown’s leading scorers.

“It was a very well played game. Excitement from the crowd was great with lots of support for both teams,” said Huskies coach, Tom Fullen. “The game was played well as both teams ran the court very well.”

The Huskies will host Tiverton at Mt. Hope on Wednesday, March 20th with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
