The Mt. Hope Huskies hockey team fell to an early season record of 0-3 after Rogers High School took a 4-3 overtime win on Saturday night, Dec. 22.

The Huskies traded goals with the Vikings throughout the game, scoring first within three minutes into the first period of the Division II Central match-up.

Mt. Hope’s John Calce scored on a pass from teammate Ross Hogan, putting the Huskies up 1-0 for the early lead.

The Rogers squad was quick to answer, slipping the puck past goalie, Matt Wilson, to tie the score.

With 30 seconds left in the first period, Justin Correia, assisted by Trevor Sousa and John Calce, reclaimed the Huskies’ lead for a 2-1 game, but the lead was short lived after another Rogers goal tied the game for a second time.

Going into the third period, the Huskies pressed on a power play, with Sousa scoring on assists by Correia and Hogan. Once again, the Vikings tied the game at 3 in the third period, sending the game into overtime.

After three and a half minutes into the overtime period, Rogers scored on a power play drive to win 4-3.

Rogers record now stands at 4-1 for the season.

The Huskies will look for its first win when they face Middletown High School, with a record of 1-2. They will meet on Saturday, Dec. 29 at Pawtucket’s Lynch Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
