Half-way through the Mt. Hope High School girls’ soccer team schedule, the team is beginning to click.

“This is when we want to click,” said coach Kerri Ferreira. “We’ve pretty much played the top teams (in the division) in the beginning of the season. This is definitely a turning point.”

The team defeated Prout Tuesday night 2-1, securing their second win of the season.

The first goal was scored by Olivia Cairrao with Taylor Perry adding the second goal for the win.

Defensively, goalkeeper Samantha Eddy tallied nine saves against Prout’s scoring attempts.

“We definitely have a lot of talented girls,” Ms. Ferreira said of her roster.

Despite the number of losses, in each of those games Mt. Hope controlled the ball with possession, if not with the opportunity to put it in the back of the net.

“We just haven’t been able to find the opportunities,” Ms. Ferreira said.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Huskies record went to 1-5-1 after taking a 2-1 loss to East Greenwich.

The win against Prout gives the team a 2-5-1 record. Mt. Hope hosts Exeter/West Greenwich on Thursday, Oct. 3.
