Mt. Hope girls’ latest softball win puts Huskies tied for first in division

Mt. Hope Huskies and the Portsmouth Patriots lit up the scoreboard on Tuesday, May 7 with Mt. Hope winning the offensive battle 10-8 in seven innings. The teams combined for 21 hits in the duel.

Starting pitcher, Madison Reis, pitched the first three innings after coming off from an injury. Reis gave up 3 hits and 2 runs before she was pulled after 40 pitches.

In the first inning, Mt. Hope scored three runs on an RBI single by Hanna Forsberg and a two-run triple by Jess Cerce.  After a quiet second inning, Portsmouth scored two runs on a hit, an error and a walk in the third inning, with the Huskies answering with five runs of their own. Mt. Hope scored thanks to an RBI double by Forsberg, an RBI single by Bella Krouse, an RBI single by Courtney Amaral, a walk by Jess Delawder, and an RBI single by Alyssa Olsen.

Mt. Hopesoftball2May2013Portsmouth scored nothing in the fourth while Mt. Hope added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the inning. Madison Reis hit a double, putting her in scoring position.  An error scored Reis while Alyssa Gonsalves scored the second run, bringing Mt. Hope to a 10-2 lead.  Portsmouth was able to rally, adding six more runs to their score, but in the end, Sophie Costa closed the game pitching the last inning to secure the 10-8 victory.

The win put the Huskies in a tie for first place with Middletown. Both teams have a 7-4 record and will face each other on Thursday, May 9 at 4 p.m. The Huskies will host at Bristol town sports complex at Colt State Park.
