The Huskies, who honored seniors Courtney Amaral and Alex Hill before the game, closed out their 2012-2013 home campaign with one of their strongest showings of the season.
Mt. Hope fell behind by as many as seven points early in the first half, but stormed back to take a 14-13 lead with 5 minutes and 46 seconds left in the half. The Huskies would not trail the rest of the game, taking a 10 point lead into the half.
Mt. Hope would tear out of the gate in the second half, scoring 21 straight points to open the period, including the Huskies’ two seniors scoring the first 14. Amaral and Hill would play almost the entire second half and would be taken out of the game in the final minute to a standing ovation from the Mt. Hope fans.
Hill would lead the Huskies in scoring with 19, while Amaral would bring in 15 points, all in the second half, including four three-pointers to put the game away. Sophomore Shae Raposa would score seven points, junior Lauren Fletcher had six, junior captain Emma Pattie would score five, freshman Sarah Barboza scored three, and junior Simone Verria and sophomore Rhys Webb each scored two.Central Falls was led in scoring by Megan Faria and Lesley McBurrey, who each scored seven points. Selena Martinez scored five points, Yesenia Vazquez had three, and Ariana Carter had two.
Mt. Hope ends the regular season 7-12 overall, while Central Falls drops to 1-17 on the year. The Rhode Island Interscholastic Girls Basketball Committee will meet on Saturday to determine the teams and seeding for the State Division Tournaments.
