Mt. Hope falls to the Eagles in volleyball, eyes Homecoming win for Friday

Coming from a 3-2 win over Tiverton on Thursday, Oct. 11, the Mt. Hope girls’ volleyball took a loss on Tuesday, playing at home against the now 9-5 Barrington Eagles.

Emma Pattie was the high scorer for Mt. Hope on Tuesday, putting up nine points during the match. Lauren Bragantin, Kelly Coccio and Rhys Webb demonstrated their strength at the service line with Lauren and Kelly scoring with three aces, and Rhys sending two across with no return.

The Huskies showed their determination throughout the match, significantly in game two where at one point they were down by a 12 point Eagles’ lead. The girls revved up their game defensively to close the gap, with Bragantin, Lauren Deschenes and Emma Pattie leading the team with digs, and Lauren Irons and Webb showing skill at net blocking with a combined total of 11 blocks.

Despite the Huskies will, the Eagles came away with a 3-0 win, scoring 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.

The Huskies record now stands at 5-9.

In last week’s game against Tiverton, Kelly Coccio was the team’s high scorer, putting up 19 points in the match. Rhys Webb was close behind, with 17 points aiding in the win.

In the fifth game against Tiverton, the Huskies were heading toward a loss, down 13-8. Mt. Hope gained control of the service with Lauren Deschenes stepping up to the service line and proceeded to serve out seven points in a row, including three aces to win the game and match.

Mt. Hope will look to get back on the winning track during Homecoming Week when they face Burrillville at home on Friday. That match begins at 5:45 p.m.
