Ionata and Barry pace Eagles to division track title

Barrington’s Charlie Ionata won four throwing events and Tom Barry broke two Eastern Division Championship meet records while leading the Eagles to a team title on Tuesday afternoon.
Ionata, a senior thrower, won the shot put, discus, javelin and 12-pound hammer throw at the championships, which were held in Barrington. Ionata threw the hammer 225 feet, 4 inches, the shot put 48 feet, 4 inches, discus 149 feet, 11 inches and the javelin 165 feet, 3 inches.
Barry, a senior distance runner, broke a nine-year-old meet record in the 1,500 meter race previously held by Barrington’s Tom Webb. Barry finished the race with a time of 4:09.5. He then captured another meet record with his victory in the 800 meter race. Barry clocked a 1:58.1, breaking the 11-year-old record held by Emanual Karngor of Shea High School.
Barrington finished the day with 193.5 points, while East Providence was second with 154.5, Portsmouth was third with 131, Rogers fourth with 41, Mt. Hope fifth with 32, Middletown sixth with 24 and Shea finished seventh with 9 points.
