Huskies sharpen their skates in Injury Fund Tournament
While the Mt. Hope skaters didn’t come away with a win in the two abbreviated scrimmages, the team, and head coach Matt Grieve, came away with some valuable insights as to what is working with the team, and where they need to work before the regular season schedule begins.
“The Injury Fund games are a good time to get the rust off the skates,” Mr. Grieve said. “We usually start shaky in October when the seniors get an opportunity to initiate their leadership in time for the season to begin.”
The team roster has 15 players for this year’s squad, with four returning seniors – goalie, Matt Wilson, and team captains, Nicholas Anania, Ross Hogan and Jacob Abenante.
“The kids got progressively better as they skated,” Mr. Grieve said of the skills he saw in the scrimmages. “We need to work on general conditioning so they’ll be in a little better shape. Our goal is to make the playoffs.”
The Huskies will have their first regular season game on Friday, Dec. 6 when they face Prout. That game will take place at St. George’s School ice rink in Middletown. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Add to favorites
