Matt Sewall took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and Portsmouth never looked back against Middletown on Thanksgiving morning.

The Patriots scored the first 22 points in the first quarter en-route to a 38-7 win over traditional rival Middletown.

Middletown managed a second quarter touchdown but Portsmouth responded with 16 more points in the third quarter.

Both teams one to 9-2 after the non-league game and Middletown remains undefeated in its division.

Portsmouth, 6-2 in Division I, opens the playoffs Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. (postponed from Tuesday evening due to bad weather) against top seed and undefeated LaSalle at LaSalle. The game is being played after the Times go to press — look for results and photos on our website (www.eastbayri.com) and in nest week’s newspaper.
