Pilgrim High School (Warwick) got off to a hot start on Saturday, Dec. 22 and held off Portsmouth 4-2 in a battle of Patriots at the Portsmouth Abbey rink.

Portsmouth was down 3-0 even before the first period was half complete but regained its composure and played better the rest of the way.

Josh Arkins finally scored Portsmouth’s first goal at the 13:12 point of the second period with assists by Ben O’Hearn and Matthew Harrigan.

Pilgrim regained a three-goal edge in the third period but Portsmouth struck back with a Harrigan goal at the 8:57 mark. Assisting on that score were Arkins and Jill Ethier.

Portsmouth goaltender Conor Struckman had a busy night in net, saving 19 of the 23 shots he faced.
